US ignored Saddam`s chemical weapons war against Iran

A recent report has revealed that the United States didn`t do anything to stop Saddam Hussein from the use of chemical weapons during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s, despite sharing intelligence with Baghdad on the matter.

London: A recent report has revealed that the United States didn`t do anything to stop Saddam Hussein from the use of chemical weapons during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s, despite sharing intelligence with Baghdad on the matter.

The Foreign Policy journal has recently declassified CIA files that showed Washington knew about Iraq using chemical weapons during 1984 war against Iran, but hid that evidence at a time when President Ronald Reagan`s was trying to prove it at the UN, the Sky News reports.

The report comes at a time when President Barack Obama is considering how to respond to an alleged chemical attack by Bashar al-Assad`s regime against Syrian rebels.

The use of chemical weapons in war was banned under the Geneva Protocol of 1925, which the US had also confirmed.
However, Iraq began using mustard gas in 1983, the journal claimed.
