US President meets Gen Odierno

Barack Obama conveys his personal gratitude for the top commander in Iraq.

Washington: US President Barack Obama met his top commander in Iraq Gen Raymond Odierno at the White House.

During the meeting, Obama conveyed his personal gratitude for Odierno`s leadership of US forces in Iraq and his cumulative service of over four years in Iraq.

"He noted that General Odierno supervised the responsible drawdown in Iraq that removed nearly 100,000 US troops while supporting our diplomatic mission and bolstering Iraqi`s forces in taking the lead for the security of the Iraqi people," the White House said in a statement.
