Hyderabad: BJP on Sunday alleged that the Congress
Government in Andhra Pradesh was under pressure from a
minority group against taking action on those responsible for
the recent communal clashes in the city.
"The government has been adopting appeasement policy
towards a particularly community for continuing its vote bank
politics," former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Bandaru
Dattatreya told reporters here.
The government is under pressure from Majlis-Ittehadul-
Muslimeen (MIM) and not taking action against those
responsible for the communal clashes the city witnessed in
March, Dattatreya alleged.
Three persons were killed and several were injured in
clashes that gripped the city for a few days in March end
over the issue of putting up religious flags. Many were
arrested in this connection.
Hyderabad has become a shelter for terrorists and other
anti-national activities. It was a serious matter and
government should not take it light in the wake of
intelligence inputs about possible terror attacks in the state
capital, he said.
"If it (government) is sincere to weed out anti-national
elements, there is an urgent need to enact a law like
Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the
state."
