MLA fasting for Telangana booked for attempt to suicide

strike demanding announcement of separate Telangana since
Tuesday, has been booked on charges of attempt to suicide,
police said on Sunday.

Following a complaint from revenue officials, Nalgonda
Town police have registered a case against the former Andhra
Pradesh minister under section 309 (attempt to suicide) in
connection with his indefinite fast, a senior police officer
told a news agency over phone from Nalgonda.

Venkat Reddy, who had quit the ministry and joined the
separatist agitation, had began his indefinite hunger strike
on Tuesday last in Nalgonda town.

On the sixth day of Reddy`s fast today, police forcibly
shifted him from the hunger strike camp in Nalgonda to a
state-run hospital here in view of his deteriorating health.
