Passenger train coach gutted in fire in Andhra Pradesh

A coach of the Chennai-Gudur passenger train was gutted at Sullurpet railway station in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh Monday evening but nobody was injured in the accident, Government Railway Police (GRP) sources said.

Hyderabad: A coach of the Chennai-Gudur passenger train was gutted at Sullurpet railway station in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh Monday evening but nobody was injured in the accident, Government Railway Police (GRP) sources said.

As the train was approaching platform number one at 7.20 pm, its second coach near the engine suddenly caught fire apparently due to short-circuit, GRP sources said, adding that passengers who noticed the same immediately got down form the burning coach.

"The burning coach was separated from the train. Nobody was injured in the incident. As per preliminary information, the train coach caught fire due to a short circuit," Nellore Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police Ramesh Babu told PTI.

"Fire tenders were pressed into service and the flames were brought under control," a senior Andhra Pradesh police official said, adding that investigations are on.
