Hyderabad: Activists of YSR Congress
party on Monday held protests across Andhra Pradesh over farmers`
issues and clashed with pro-Telangana activists in Warangal
district.
Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy, president of YSR Congress,
led the protest in Chittoor district which is the native of
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Telugu Desam Chief N
Chandrababu Naidu while his mother Vijayalakshmi, an MLA from
Pulivendula assembly constituency, led the agitation in
Kadapa.
Alleging that the incumbent Congress government as
well as its predecessors did a precious little to grant relief
to the farmers in distress, Jagan said "People are ready to
teach them a lesson whenever elections are held. The farmers
in the state are in a distress as they are not even able to
store their produce due to unavailability of godown space."
He said that the state government failed to purchase
farmers` produce and providing seeds to them.
The protests were held at the district collectorates
all over the state and the YSR Congress leaders submitted
memoranda to the collectors on farmers` issues.
Meanwhile, workers of YSR Congress clashed with
pro-Telangana activists in Warangal district over the charge
that Jagan`s party was against carving out of Telangana as a
separate state.
