The department will bring out the notice for the recruitment exercise next month, followed by written tests and other selection processes, he said.

Elaborating on the vacancy situation, Choudhury said: "We will hire around 8,000 constables. Out of that, 6,500 armed constable posts are lying vacant. In addition, we have got sanction for creating 1,300 posts for un-armed constables."

Besides, 350 sub-inspector posts are vacant in Assam Police at present along with other higher positions, he added.

The portal, which is being developed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, is likely to go live by next month.

The police department is also giving soft skill training to its personnel for improving their behaviour while dealing with the public, he said.

To further boost the relationship with the civil society, a national debate competition and a national quiz competition is being organised later this month to celebrate the Assam Police Day, Choudhury said.
