Gogoi directs prompt disposal of corruption cases

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday directed that all graft-related cases should be dealt with promptly to act as a deterrent by reducing the time taken for inquiries, cases and its disposal.
Reviewing the performance of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption department, the Chief Minister directed that charge sheets be submitted in all old vigilance cases wherever sufficient evidence has been found.
Gogoi underscored the need to lay traps as an effective deterrent in respect of cases relating to acceptance of illegal gratification by public servants.

Guidelines should be suitably modified in such a way that government approval would be required only once before the enquiry was concluded to reduce the delay in inquiries and cases, he pointed out.

The chief minister also directed that anti-corruption organizations be revamped so that cases relating to corruption are dealt with effectively.

The meeting was attended among others by P P Varma, Chief Secretary in-charge P P Varma, Commissioner and Secretary, Home and Political Jishnu Barua and Director Vigilance and Anti Corruption Pradip Kumar were present in the meeting.
