Motihari: Deputy Chief Minister Sushil
Kumar Modi today charged the UPA government with going back on
its assurance to set up a Central University of Bihar at
Motihari and said that it was playing `divisive` politics.
"The UPA government has reneged on its earlier promise
to set up the CUB at Motihari, the work place of the `Father
of Nation` Mahatma Gandhi, and is now playing divisive
politics by asking the state government`s consent for Gaya as
the location for it," Modi told reporters here.
He urged the Centre to approve Motihari as the venue
of the central university in deference to sentiments of
the people of Bihar instead of harping on lack of an airport
and other infrastructure.
He expressed optimism that the airport and other
facilities would come up at Motihari in course of time as
the state was growing rapidly under the leadership of the
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Stating that the Centre has set up central
universities in other states, Modi urged the Centre to
consider the case of Motihari.
On power shortage in Bihar, he said that an all-party
delegation led by the chief minister had met the Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh recently and submitted a memorandum
seeking coal linkage for the Barauni thermal power expansion
project and 50 per cent share in power from Barh and Kahalgaon
thermal power projects.
"The PM has assured us to look positively at our
demands," Modi said.
