Kingpin of AK-47 replicating gang arrested in Bihar

The kingpin of a gang that earned fame among anti-socials for replicating AK-47 rifles besides manufacturing highly sophisticated pistols was arrested on Wednesday.

Munger: The kingpin of a gang that earned fame among anti-socials for replicating AK-47 rifles besides manufacturing highly sophisticated pistols was arrested on Wednesday.

Bihar cops and sleuths of the Special Cell of Delhi Police caught Manzar Alam alias Manjee from his native Bardah village under Mufassil police station in Munger district, Superintendent of Police Barun Kumar Sinha said.

Bardah village is notorious for illegal gun factories.

"It was a joint operation of Delhi Police and Bihar Police. Delhi police was hunting Alam in two cases of illegal arms seizure in New Delhi," Sinha said.

While one case related to the seizure of a consignment of a duplicate AK-47 and 30 pistols in June at Yamuna Vihar, the other one was that of 99 sophisticated pistols in July last year at Sonia Vihar.

Alam was wanted by Delhi Police for the second case.

The SP said the Munger-made 'AK-47' was so well made that at first even seasoned police personnel took it to be original.

This had unnerved the security and intelligence agencies as they feared if such highly sophisticated replicas of the assault rifle fell into the wrong hands.

Sinha said Alam had earlier been arrested from Patna while carrying over 1,000 cartridges in July, but he was released on bail as his links with the Delhi cases were not established by then.
