79 new dengue cases in Delhi, total crosses 2,000-mark

With the national capital reporting 79 new cases of dengue Wednesday, the total number of people infected with the vector-borne disease this year reached 2012, officials said.

New Delhi: With the national capital reporting 79 new cases of dengue Wednesday, the total number of people infected with the vector-borne disease this year reached 2012, officials said.

According to an official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), five people, including one from outside Delhi, have died due to dengue this year in the capital.

With the city reporting around 70 new cases on a daily basis, the MCD is expecting the number of dengue cases this year to cross the 2006 figure of 3,366 cases.

According to the MCD, 1,153 dengue cases and three deaths were reported in 2009, 1,312 cases and two deaths in 2008, 548 cases and one death in 2007, and 3,366 cases and 36 deaths in 2006.
