New Delhi: Residents of Bawana, located in
the north-western part of the capital, today alleged that
the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has not rehabilitated
them five years after their eviction from their previous
residences.
Led by an NGO, Hazards Centre, slum dwellers from Bawana
Resettlement Colony, near the Haryana border, said they have
been forced to live under the open sky and are still waiting
for a plot of land in the colony.
The residents alleged that they have been approaching the
DDA authorities and the Lt Governor since the past two years,
but are yet to see any positive outcome of their efforts.
The slum dwellers were relocated from Saraswati Vihar,
Ashok Vihar, Shalimar Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Yamuna Pushta and
Vikaspuri.
Though 129 people had been allotted plots in the draw, 94
of them were rejected by the DDA without any verification,
Hazards Centre director Dunu Roy said.
Another member of the NGO, Induprakash, said the Sheila
Dikshit government should intervene in this regard and see
that the directions given by the Lt Governor to the DDA are
followed properly.
Some residents of the colony said they were having a hard
time with anti-social elements moving around freely in the
area and alleged that Delhi Police is not doing anything in
this regard.
