New Delhi: Sleuths of Delhi Police Special
Branch and Vigilance will be on the capital`s streets ahead of
Diwali next Saturday to swoop down on those indulging in
illegal sale of crackers.

Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal has already asked
these wings to constitute special teams to conduct recce of
the city ahead of the `festival of lights` to ensure that
nobody is into illegal stockpiling or selling of crackers.

"These teams are besides the local police which will also
look into regulating the sale of crackers. The teams will
ensure that all those selling crackers have the required
license," a senior police official said.

The teams of Special Branch and Vigilance personnel will
go for random checks in various areas and the drive will be
intensified just ahead of the festival on Saturday when the
sales peak. "We are fully vigilant," the official said.

Delhi Police had on October eight claimed to have seized
2,465 kg of crackers illegally stored in a godown in Madangir
and arrested one person in this connection.

The official said security will be strengthened across
the city, especially markets, shopping malls and religious
places where a large number of people gather.

"We are also advising street-vendors to be vigilant and
inform us about suspicious persons roaming in markets. They
also have to be cautious that no unscrupulous elements plant
explosives on their carts," he said.
