New Delhi: A meeting to discuss thick smog enveloping the national capital ended on Saturday with the governments of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana agreeing to crackdown on polluting vehicles, a report said.
The meeting, called by the Sheila Dikshit government, was attended by secretaries of Delhi, Haryana and Punjab as well as scientists and environmentalists.
Expressing concern over the existing unprecedented smog over the capital, the Delhi government had earlier this week decided to launch a special drive against polluting vehicles coming from other states.
Apart from this, burning of rice husk and straw in agricultural fields in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have also contributed to the haze, an officer had noted.
Meanwhile, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has established real-time air monitoring stations and the data is available in public domain.
According to scientists at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is expected to witness a more severe pollution after Diwali on November 13 with likelihood of western disturbance coinciding with smoke caused by firecrackers.
