New Delhi: The national capital will have
at least 100 `green buildings` in next three years with Delhi
Government on Monday inking a pact with The Energy Research
Institute (TERI) to implement the ambitious project.

As per the agreement, TERI would provide technical
assistance to Delhi Government to retrofit 100 existing
buildings having more than 10,000 sq ft to make them energy
efficient.

The buildings to be converted into `green buildings`
include Delhi Secretariat, Chief Minister`s residence, NDMC
head office, DDA headquarters Vikas Minar, sales tax building
and Delhi Government hospitals.

Terming the collaboration as a giant step to ensure
energy efficiency, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said her
Government was committed to make Delhi the most environment
friendly city in the world.

"Whenever Delhi sets an example, the rest of the
country follows," she said elaborating on the `Climate Change
Agenda 2009-12` under which the city government is planning to
initiate several steps towards energy efficiency.

Praising the Delhi Government for its `green Delhi
initiative` noted environmentalist and TERI chief R K Pachauri
said "TERI would sincerely render its constructive
contribution in making this partnership a grand success."

Dikshit added that her government has instructed to
develop all Commonwealth Games related infrastructure as green
buildings.

"It is only because of our concerted efforts the city
has earned recognition as the greenest capital in the world".

As per the pact, TERI-CCI (Clinton Climate Initiative)
will provide support to the building owners in identifying,
designing and implementing large scale energy efficiency
building retrofit projects and bringing the owner together
with the necessary contracting and financial firms for
implementation.

TERI-CCI partnership will also provide technical
support to Delhi Government to identify ESCOs (Energy Service
Companies), oversee audits and implementation of green
building specifications, standardise procurement methods and
develop policies.
