Ghaziabad: A birthday celebration here turned into a tragedy when two friends at the party had a fight over alcohol, leading to the death of one of them.
The incident took place at a hotel in Vasundhara Sector-16 last night, police said on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Rahul, a resident of Ashok Nagar.
Yesterday night, Rahul along with his friend Vishnu came to Vasundhara to attend the birthday party of their friend Gaurav, Indirapuram police station SHO Hari Dayal Singh Yadav said.
During the celebrations, Rahul picked up the liquor bottle from which Vishnu was drinking. This enraged Vishnu and a scuffle started between the two. During the fight, Vishnu hurled a water-filled jug towards Rahul which hit him on the head, Yadav said.
Rahul started bleeding and he fainted.
He was rushed to a hospital by friends, but he later succumbed to his head injury.
On being informed about the incident by the hotel, policemen reached there and arrested Vishnu.
An FIR has been registered and the accused sent to jail, Yadav added.
