New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday claimed to
have cracked a gang of women thieves, allegedly inspired by a
Bollywood movie and entered the world of crime to support
their families, with the arrest of five of its members.

A man who allegedly received the stolen material was also
arrested, they said.

Forty-eight batteries used for providing back up in signal
towers of mobile service provider which the gang allegedly
stole were recovered from them, Deputy Commissioner of Police
(West) Sharad Aggarwal said.

The arrested were identified Geeta (30), the gang leader,
Kela (32), Krishna (40), Ompati (40), Sheela (20) and
Gurvachan (45), the alleged receiver. All the women belong to
Haryana`s Khokhra Kot in Rohtak district.

The arrests were made yesterday at Peera Garhi Chowk in
Paschim Vihar following investigations into a tip off about
the gang coming to the area. A case has been registered.

"Geeta told us that they all are from a poor back ground
and their husbands are either drunkards or drug-addicts. For
earning their livelihood, they initially started working as
rag pickers and later turned to petty thefts.

"...Geeta met a woman who motivated them to come out from
petty thefts and do something more so that they could earn
hefty amounts in a single theft. She also gave example of
Hindi movie `Dhoom-2` in which the lady thief take advantage
of her gender," Aggarwal said.

Earlier, Geeta and the gang started committing petty thefts
of iron and wooden items in Nangloi wood market.
