New Delhi: Two persons died here apparently due to the intense heat wave in the city, which has been recording day temperatures hovering around 45 degrees Celsius for the past few days.
The bodies were found by police under the staircase of a foot over bridge near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in south Delhi's Lodhi Colony area here last evening.
Prima facie it appeared that the duo died due to intense heat as they were exposed to sun and hot winds.
The police, however, said that they would wait for autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
"We had got a call at 6:50 pm about a dead body under the foot over bridge near JLN stadium. When a team reached the spot, we found two dead bodies under the stairs. It seems that they died due to hot conditions. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem which would establish the exact cause of death," a senior police official said, adding the duo, suspected to be vagabonds, could not be identified.
Maximum temperature in the city had settled at 45 degrees Celsius yesterday, a day after it touched 45.5 degrees Celsius on Monday, the highest temperature this season so far.
So far, three persons have been reported dead due to heat this summer in Delhi. While two deaths were reported from Connaught Place, one person was found dead in Defence Colony area. All of them were vagabonds.
