Gurgaon: The Gurgaon police on Wednesday said that the residents of the flat where two Nepalese women were raped, enjoy diplomatic immunity.

The remarks by police came after they booked a Saudi diplomat for raping a Nepalese mother-daughter duo in a Gurgaon flat.

A 20-year-old woman from Nepal said she and her 44-year-old mother were sexually abused every day for the last four months by a Saudi diplomat in a flat in Gurgaon.

The Nepalese women had been brought to India on the pretext of a better future in the aftermath of earthquake.

Speaking about the case, Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said that an FIR was filed and investigation was begun into the case.

“FIR doesn't mean that the allegation has been proven but to start investigation,” he added.

In what suggests that it would be tough to take action against the diplomat, the police commissioner further added that the residents of the flat enjoy diplomatic immunity in India.

The police added that they “are in touch with MEA who have asked for more details of us which we are sending”.
