Sheila holds meetings on forming 3 civic bodies

Sheila Dikshit held a series of meetings with top officials of the administration to ensure smooth constitution of the 3 municipalities.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today held a series of meetings with top officials of the administration to ensure smooth constitution of the three municipalities by later this week.

In the meetings, Dikshit instructed MCD Commissioner KS Mehra and other concerned officials to take all the steps required for constitution of the East, South and North Delhi municipalities curved out of MCD.

BJP today trumped Congress to retain its hold in the Delhi municipal polls winning North and East Corporations and is set to capture South where it has emerged as the single-largest group.

Dikshit also held meetings with a number of Congress leaders and discussed the outcome of the polls.

The government is likely to appoint Manish Gupta, who is currently holding charge of Additional Commissioner in Engineering branch of MCD, as Commissioner of East Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Debashree Mukherjee, now working as an Officer on Special Duty in MCD, is likely to be appointed as Commissioner of South Delhi municipality while senior IAS officer Janak Diggal is being considered for the Commissioner`s post for the North Delhi municipality.

Diggal is now holding charge of Additional Commissioner of MCD`s establishment branch.

The entire exercise to constitute the three new corporations will have to be completed by April 21 when the tenure of the current MCD house ends.
