New Delhi: A youth who allegedly concocted a
plan to please his girlfriend by stage managing his own
kidnapping and making a demand of Rs 20 lakh to his father,
was arrested along with his associate here, police said on Monday.

According to police, 22-year-old Pawan Verma alias Bunty
cooked up a story in connivance with his friend Himanshu to
extract the hefty money from his father as his "new"
girlfriend wanted to celebrate this new year in Macau in South
East Asia.

Bunty, a resident of West Sagarpur, went traceless on
Saturday evening after he left his father`s shop at Gaffar
market claiming that he had to meet someone near Arya Samaj
Mandir, police said.

As he did not return till late evening, his father Ram
Sahay Verma started calling on his mobile phone but received
an SMS which claimed that Bunty had been kidnapped and would
only be safely released after paying a ransom of Rs 20 lakh.

Terrified by the SMS, Verma reported the matter to police
which started an investigation after filing a case of
kidnapping at Karol Bagh police station.

Police said Bunty was communicating with his father posing
as the kidnapper through text messages. Investigators, then,
started replying in the same manner posing as Bunty`s father.

The `kidnapper` kept investigators on their toes asking
the victim`s father to come with the ransom money from one
place to another in the capital, police said.
