New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Monday denied reports that she wanted to contest against BJP`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency.

A report in a leading English daily had claimed this morning that Priyanka was “very keen” to fight Modi in the holy city. However, her desire was scuttled by the top party leadership.

Priyanka, who has till now restricted herself to campaigning for her mother Sonia and brother Rahul in their constituencies Rae Bareli and Amethi, is believed to have told the Congress leadership that Modi was "bad for the country" and needed to be "stopped", as per the daily.
However, she today denied expressing any such desire.

Priyanka told news channels that she has always made it clear her focus was only two seats – of her mother and elder brother.

No one in the party would ever stop me from contesting election if I wanted, Priyanka said debunking the report.
"My brother, mother and husband (Robert Vadra) would wholeheartedly support me if I ever wanted to (contest)," Priyanka (42) said.

"My decision to not contest is personal. I will only change it when I feel from within that I should," she added.
