Goa drug mafia issue handed over to CBI: Minister

The issue of the police-politician-drug mafia nexus has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik, whose son is allegedly linked with the racket, said in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Panaji: The issue of the police-politician-drug mafia nexus has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik, whose son is allegedly linked with the racket, said in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Naik`s announcement came after the opposition put the government on the mat over the issue.

"I have handed over the drug case to the CBI. What more do you want me to do now? They will investigate the case," Naik said.

The opposition, media and two foreigners, including Fiona Mackeown, the mother of slain British teenager Scarlett Keeling, have alleged that Naik`s son Roy was linked to the drug mafia in Goa.

Eight police officers have already been suspended from service for their links to drug trade.

There were also allegations that Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, who had exposed the police-politician-drug mafia nexus in Goa, were being hounded by the drug mafia.

Scarlett Keeling was sexually assaulted and left to die by two beach shack hands in 2008.
