Goans to get fish at subsidised rate

Goa government will provide fish at subsidised rates to rein in its soaring prices.

Panaji: Goa government will provide fish at subsidised rates to rein in its soaring prices.

Making the announcement in the Legislative Assembly Thursday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the government had already promised in the Budget that fish will be made available at subsidised rates.
"The fish would be provided through outlets at wholesale rate," Parrikar said.

The issue was raised on the floor of the House by Independent legislator Rohan Khaunte who asked why there is no control over the rising prices of fish which has made it unaffordable.

Earlier, state Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado said that his department will soon set up outlets for the purpose.
