Panaji: Few flights landing at the Dabolim airport in Goa had to take an overrun on Tuesday due to thick morning fog resulting in low visibility near here, officials said.

Dabolim airport spokesman said the early morning fog forced few flights to take an overrun due to low visibility.

"However, there is not much delay or flight diversions but the pilots took an overrun before landing," he said.

The flights after approaching the runway had to take another round before pilot gets the confidence to land it, the spokesman said adding that fog has been enveloping the area since last 2-3 days.

Similarly, hundreds of passengers travelling on a ferry boat connecting Island of Chorao to Panaji were stranded in mid-water for almost an hour this morning as the boat lost its way towards the wharf due to the fog.

State River and Navigation department officials said that they have initiated inquiry into the incident.

"There was fog and visibility was poor because of which the ferry boat must have missed its direction," a senior official said.

Since the incident happened at peak time, the ferry boat was packed with the passengers who were on their way to Panaji.

Indian metrological observatory said the moisture availability in the lower atmosphere resulted in the fog.

"It’s not a thick fog but there are some visibility issues," IMD Goa Director K V Singh said.
