Good governance is good politics, says Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Saturday said good governance is only possible if the government looks beyond short term requirement.

Uttan: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra
Modi Saturday said good governance is only possible if the
government looks beyond short term requirement.

"The government should do things keeping in mind future
generation and not the next election," Modi said addressing
the convention of Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states on good
governance here.

Proactive good governance aims beyond short term
requirement keeping in mind the long term needs such as the
need for clean technology and preparedness for climate change,
he said.

He said contrary to the opinion that good governance is
bad politics, it is good politics.

While transparency will reduce corruption, good
governance should go beyond transparency to achieve openness,
Modi, whose model of governance is being applauded by the BJP,
said, adding political will is necessary for achieving good
governance.

"Good governance is a political process and though role
of civil society is critical, without political will
sustainable good governance cannot be achieved," Modi said.

Stating that BJP is a political party with a difference
that aims at good governance, Modi said this fact is proved by
a recent media survey according to which three of the top five
Chief Ministers are from BJP ruled state.
