Gujarat IPS officer Rai approaches CAT

IPS officer Rajnish Rai, a former investigating officer in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, has approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) over his Annual Confidential Report (ACR).

Ahmedabad: IPS officer Rajnish Rai, a former
investigating officer in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake
encounter case, has approached the Central Administrative
Tribunal (CAT) over his Annual Confidential Report (ACR).

The matter is scheduled to come up for hearing on April
18.

Rai`s lawyer refused to reveal the details.

In 2007, Rai headed the investigation of Sohrabuddin
case, and he was the one to arrest three IPS officers -- DG
Vanzara, Dinesh MN and Rajkumar Pandiyan.

Rai was brought in to probe the case in the place of IG
Geetha Johri, after she submitted an inquiry report on the
Sohrabuddin case to the Supreme Court revealing that it was a
fake encounter.

But when Rai arrested three senior cops, he was shunted
out and Johri was brought back.

Rai was later posted as the Principal of the Police
training school in Junagadh in 2008. He is presently on a two
years` study leave.

Earlier this month, senior IPS officer Kuldip Sharma won
a case in CAT against the state government, where he had
challenged downgrading of his ACR by the Chief Minister
Narendra Modi.

Sharma too was once associated with Sohrabuddin case.
