BMW accused surrenders, gets bail within hours

Gurgaon: In the latest development in the tragic BMW hit-and-run case, Suraj Singh Sherawat, son of the car owner, finally surrendered before a court in Haryana on Tuesday. However, he was granted bail soon after.

In the May 05 accident, a speeding BMW had hit a Tata Indigo car near IFFCO Chowk here.

The accident led to a major outcry with protests being held to bring the culprits to book. Sanjay Sethi and a pregnant woman, Kshama Chopra Shetye, had died in the accident, while three others were injured. Around 100 people on Sunday held a candle light march to protest the two deaths in the BMW crash.

The owner of the BMW, Devender Sehrawat, had claimed that his driver, Rajesh alias Raju was driving the vehicle when the mishap occurred.

Rajesh surrendered in the local court yesterday and verified this version. Police, however, refused to buy his version. Also, the bail application of Rajesh was rejected yesterday by a local court.

Police were suspecting that Suraj Sehrawat was on the driving seat.

Suraj had got himself admitted in a posh hospital with the doctors maintaining all the while that he was not fit to record a statement.
