FDA seals medical store, illegal medicines seized

FDA officials sealed a medical store in the Ambala city for the illegal sale of Schedule H medicines, often misused by drug addicts.

Chandigarh: Haryana Food and Drug Administration(FDA) officials on Friday sealed a medical store in the Ambala city for the illegal sale of Schedule H medicines, often misused by drug addicts.

Twelve types of Schedule H medicines were recovered in the raid at Shree Sant Medicose in Naraingarh Road in the city, an FDA spokesman said.

Schedule H medicines are those drugs whose only legitimate use is for scientific research and required to be sold on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only. This legal requirement is made to prevent self medication.

The medicines were hidden in toilet in the rear portion of the shop, he said, adding that the seized medicines include Lomotil tablets, Spasmoproxyvon capsules, Nitrazepam, Alprazolam, Lorezapam and Rexcof cough syrup among others.

Over 40 shops have been sealed recently in the state for the illegal sale of such medicines, the spokesman said.

The department is initiating the required steps to take action against the guilty persons, he added.
