Hisar: Over 100 people, arrested during the Jat agitation to press for job reservation under OBC quota, were on Sunday released even as the stir showed signs of easing.
However, the community leaders said they have no yet called off their protests and a final decision will be taken soon.
The courts in Hisar and Tohana today ordered release of 74 and 29 Jat protesters respectively. They were arrested on charges of arson and violence during the over three-week-long agitation.
The courts accepted the plea of the police that it does not have enough evidence against them and the 103 people including the leaders of Jat Arakshan Samiti Dharam Pal Chhot (President state unit) were released this evening from the central jail here.
Police investigation and collection of evidence against the accused would, however, continue, official sources said, stressing that the cases have not been withdrawn.
Road blockades in many areas were lifted early today but were put up again by afternoon.
Dharam Pal Chhot told reporters outside jail that the Arakshan Samiti has not withdrawn the stir and the final decision will be taken at Mayar panchayat after the cremation of Sandeep, who was killed in clashes between protesters and Rapid Action Force personnel on March 6.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who was likely to meet the protesters, did not turn up in view of official commitments at Chandigarh.
The standoff between Jats, who were demanding unconditional release of protesters, and Haryana government had ended last night with the authorities deciding to release the detenus.
