Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Wednesday sought a reply from the central and state governments as to what action has been taken by them in compliance of its earlier orders for prevention of swine flu.

Earlier, the court had directed the state government to pay special attention on preventive measures and enhance the test laboratories for effective control of swine flu and other flu-like diseases in Uttar Pradesh.

The central government was also asked to provide required assistance to the state government in this matter.

A division bench of chief justice Dr D Y Chandrachud and justice Shree Narain Shukla passed this order on a PIL seeking a direction for effective control of swine flu and other flu- like diseases.

The court had directed the state government to provide pathological test facilities in each state-owned medical college to diagnose the disease and to make available medicines and special masks to people soon for prevention against swine flu.

The petitioner's counsel Nutan Thakur had brought the pathetic conditions of isolation wards and lack of testing labs in government hospitals to the court's notice and alleged negligence towards swine flu.

According to Additional Advocate General Bulbul Godiyal, on Wednesday, Director General of Medical Education V M Tripathi appeared before the court as per its earlier orders. The court provided time to union and state government counsels to file their responses on May 15 regarding compliance of its earlier orders.
