Artemis to conduct human trials for cancer medicine in India

New Delhi: Gurgaon-based Artemis Health
Institute Saturday said it has been short-listed by the US-based
pharmaceutical firm Genelux to conduct human trials for a new
virus-based medicine used in cancer treatment.

"Early trials done in the UK have shown very promising
results. Artemis Health Institute, Gurgaon will be the second
centre in the world to do the trials in India," Artemis Health
Institute CEO Kushagra Katariya said.

He said that after signing a protocol agreement with
Genelux, the institute would apply for the permission of the
Indian Council of Medical Research and Drug Controller-General
of India for conducting the Phase II and III trials for
`GL-ONC1`, the virus-based cancer medicine, in the country.

Asked about the value of the deal, he said, it would take
another month to sign a protocol agreement with the US-based
firm and only after that such details would be finalised.

A Phase I clinical trial of GL-ONC1 is currently underway
in the United Kingdom and the US-based firm is now seeking a
regulatory nod for conducting further trials in other parts of
the world.
