`Experts chalking out plans for wellness centre`

Bangalore: Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister today said two teams of experts are chalking out plans to give shape to the innovative concept of setting up a `wellness centre` here to provide holistic health service by integrating modern and alternative medicine systems.

"Two teams of experts are in the process of giving shape to the innovative concept and will come up with a sketch of ideas in a couple of weeks," he told reporters here.

After gathering the ideas, an expert panel, including himself, reputed heart surgeon Devi Shetty and Biocon`s Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw would review them and give shape to the concept of creating the the centre in month, he said.

The `wellness centre` would be set up on the premises of Narayana Hrudalaya under a pilot project and later shifted to another location in the city, Pitroda said.

Shetty said it has become necessary to create such a centre to help the medical fraternity extend services beyond modern medical science as modern medicine does not offer holistic remedies.

Mazumdar said there are many wellness centres, but that conceptualised on Narayana Hrudalaya would be different. More than curing patients, the centre would focus on improving their immunity by integrating modern and alternative medical sciences, Dr Paul Salin, CEO Mazumdar Shaw Centre for Cancer said.
