Nitish Kumar forms medical team to find out reasons of AES outbreak

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Thursday announced constitution of a research team of medical experts to find out reasons for the outbreak of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome and Japanese encephalitis which afflicted a large population in Muzaffarpur, Gaya and other places.

The chief minister reviewed the latest work on the two diseases at AIIMS Patna with experts who have worked on it.

The joint research team would include doctors from AIIMS, Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna Medical College and Hospital, Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (Muzaffarpur), Anugrah Narayan Memorial Magadh Medical College (Gaya) and Kejriwal Hospital (Muzzafarpur), Kumar told reporters.

Kumar said UNICEF would also assist in the task.

He said the health department would coordinate with experts from different hospitals and organisations who would be part of the joint research team.

Kumar stressed on greater awareness, paying due attention to cleanliness and making available clean drinking water to prevent the spread of these diseases.

AIIMS (Patna) Director J K Singh, Principal Secretary Health Brajesh Mehrotra and commissioners of Magadh and Muzaffarpur divisions were present.
