Swine flu has claimed ten more lives in Gujarat, taking the toll to 186 since January this year, according to an official release issued here Friday.

Ahmedabad: Swine flu has claimed ten more lives in Gujarat, taking the toll to 186 since January this year, according to an official release issued here Friday.

Besides these deaths, 266 new swine flu cases were recorded across the state today.

"Gujarat reported ten swine flu deaths today, taking the total number of deaths to 186, while 266 new H1N1 (swine flu) cases were reported today," the release said.

Out of ten swine flu deaths, three were reported in Rajkot, two were reported from Vadodara as well as Anand, while Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat district reported one case each, the release said.

Yesterday, the Gujarat High Court had directed the Gujarat state government to ensure that private hospitals provide free treatment to swine flu patients and also asked the government to ensure adequate supply of medicines.

After the High Court's directive, Gujarat Health Commissioner J P Gupta asked all district collectors and municipal commissioners today to take necessary steps to fight swine flu.

"We have asked all collectors and municipal commissioners to co-ordinate with private hospitals in their respective areas to ensure implementation of the High Court's directive," Gupta said.
