New Delhi: Almost everyone is fond of olives, be it on your favourite pizza, sandwich or salad. Not only do they taste good but are loaded with a number of health benefits. Here is another reason why eating olives is a important. According to a new study, it helps reduce risk of heart disease.

Scientists have claimed that olive oil could even help reverse a patient's heart failure immediately.

Oleate - the fat found in the golden liquid - could help lower blood pressure and LDL cholesterol.

Researchers at the Universities of Glasgow and Lisbon and Mosaiques Diagnostics in Germany teamed up to study the effect of phenolics, natural compounds found in plants, including olives, on heart health.

Phenolics, along with monounsaturated fatty acids, are thought by the Federal Drug Administration in the US and European Food Safety Authority to be responsible for the protective effect of olive oil.

The results of the study showed great success to fight most common form of heart disease.

It is important to note here that proper diet and making a few lifesyle changes is the best way to keep heart diseases at bay.

The study is published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
