New Delhi: Rajya Sabha on Wednesday mourned the death of imminent jurist and former Supreme Court judge VR Krishna Iyer.
When the House met for the day, Chairman Hamid Ansari mentioned of the passing away of Iyer on December 4 at the age of 100.
Describing him as a renowned legal luminary, Ansari said Iyer began his career as an advocate and rose to become a judge of Supreme Court from 1973 to 1980.
He was a social reformer whose judgements upheld human rights and rule of law, he said.
"In passing away of Krishna Iyer, the country has lost a legal luminary and a dedicated social reformer," he said.
Members thereafter stood in silence as mark of respect to the departed soul.
