Kathua: Authorities on Monday seized a consignment of polythene bags weighing a massive 9,000kg at the Lakhanpur toll plaza in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The polythene bags, which were being smuggled into the state from Punjab, were seized from a truck loaded with bags of potatoes, said the Deputy Commissioner of Excise and Taxation at Lakhanpur, Mustaq Ahmed.
The truck bearing fake registration plates along with the illegal consignment has been handed over to the Commercial Tax department, Ahmed said.
The use, sale and import of polythene bags is banned in the state under directions from J&K High Court.
