Anti-social elements booked for spreading desecration rumours

Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday registered a case against anti-social elements who tried to spread rumours about an alleged act of desecration, triggering violent protests in Shopian district.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday registered a case against anti-social elements who tried to spread rumours about an alleged act of desecration, triggering violent protests in Shopian district.
Violent protests rocked Bonagam and adjoining areas in Shopian town, 52 kms from here, following a desecration rumour, prompting police to fire teargas shells and use batons to bring the situation under control, official sources said.

They said the clashes continued for several hours but there was no report of any casualty.

A police spokesman said a case has been registered against some anti-social elements who tried to spread rumours on social networking site, face book, about the desecration act.

"The Police enquiries found these rumours totally baseless. A case has been registered and culprits have been identified," the spokesman said, adding these culprits are being arrested shortly.
