Awami National Conference for `Lokayukta` in J&K

Drawing inspiration from the anti-corruption crusade led by Anna Hazare, ANC demanded that J&K Governor should summon a special session of the state legislature for passing a bill to set up a `Lokayukta`.

Srinagar: Drawing inspiration from the
anti-corruption crusade led by Anna Hazare, Awami National
Conference (ANC) on Sunday demanded that Jammu and Kashmir
Governor should summon a special session of the state
legislature for passing a bill to set up a `Lokayukta`.

"We demand that the Governor should call an extraordinary
session of the legislature so that a bill can be passed to set
up a body on the lines of Lokayukta which will also include
members of the civil society," ANC Vice President Muzaffar
Ahmad Shah told reporters here.

Shah, son of a former chief minister Ghulam Mohammad Shah
and cousin of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, said there should
be no hesitation among legislators to support the bill as it
would bring accountability among politicians, bureaucrats and
other people in public life.

He also demanded that the interviews for government jobs
should be recorded on camera and installation of camera in
government offices dealing with the public to check
corruption.

On his father`s dream of holding an intra-Kashmir
conference, Shah said the first conference will be held in May
in Jammu followed by conferences in Muzaffarabad, Leh, Gilgit
and the last one at Srinagar.
