Srinagar: A major tragedy was averted
early this morning when alert security personnel found that
fish plates of a railway track on the Baramulla-Qazigund
section in the outskirts of Srinagar had been removed by
suspected militants.
A senior police official said the tampering of the
track in Nowgam could have been the handiwork of a terror
group aiming to cause civilian casualties.
The track connects Baramulla in North Kashmir with
Qazigund in South Kashmir.
Militants had in April blown up a part of the
Baramulla-Qazigund line near the Kakpora railway station in
Pulwama district.
