Heavy snowfall blocks Mughal Road in Poonch

Heavy snowfall has forced the closure of the Mughal Road in Poonch District, cutting off contact with the rest of the valley, and disrupting normal life.

Poonch (J&K): Heavy snowfall has forced the closure of the Mughal Road in Poonch District, cutting off contact with the rest of the valley, and disrupting normal life.

"Mughal Road is closed from past five to six days due to heavy snowfall and no arrangements have been made to take stock of the situation. Poonch district has been cut off from the Srinagar district for the past five to six days," said a resident, Kramat Hussain.
"We stay close to the Mughal Road and we are facing lot of problems. There is 20 to 25 feet of snow at least. If someone falls sick, there are neither arrangements of a car nor any hospital or a doctor. This district has been completely cut off. We demand some arrangements," said another resident, Mohammed Latif.

The Mughal Road was once used by Mughal emperors to travel and capture the Kashmir valley.
Heavy snowfall had also shutdown the National Highway earlier, the only surface link between Kashmir and rest of the nation.
Normal life in many parts of north India has been adversely affected due to the harsh weather conditions.

In places at higher altitudes, the temperature has even dropped to the sub-zero level, with some states witnessing lowest minimum temperatures.

Located in the tropics, most of India witnesses very hot summers and largely temperate winters.
