IED defused, tragedy averted in J&K

Averting a major tragedy, a powerful IED was today defused on Srinagar-Baramulla national highway, officials said.

The IED, kept inside a pressure cooker, was planted by militants on the roadside at Narbal chowk, 14 kms from here.

The device was detected by a Road Opening Party of security forces and later defused by the bomb disposal squad, they said.

Traffic on the highway, which also connects the famous hill resort of Gulmarg, remained suspended for sometime.
This is the second IED neutralised by the experts in as many days. Yesterday, police defused a powerful IED fitted in a three-kg gas cylinder in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.
Two hand grenades, ten live rounds of AK rifle were also seized from the spot.
