J-K Govt asks people to participate in conservation schemes

The Jammu and Kashmir government has offered a participatory role for people in the schemes being implemented for conservation of the state`s natural resources.

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has
offered a participatory role for people in the schemes being
implemented for conservation of the state`s natural resources.

Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Mian Altaf
Ahmed, while addressing a series of meetings during his
two-day visit to Rajouri and Poonch districts, said the
government is keen to involve people in conservation schemes
to preserve natural, cultural and historical heritages of the
state, a press release said here today.

He said a massive developmental programme has been
launched across the state for creating adequate social
infrastructure with the aim of promoting economic activities.

During his tour, Ahmed launched an afforestation drive at
Rajouri`s Limberi village and announced that two lakh saplings
of various species, having cash value of Rs 30 lakh would be
provided to rural areas of the district on nominal prices.

Ahmed said saplings of trees like Bamboo and Amala would
be provided to people under Social Forestry Scheme so that
they could also get handsome dividends, besides contributing
in adding to the forest cover of the area.
