J&K: Cop injured in encounter with militants

A policeman was injured in an encounter between security forces and militants in Kangan area of Ganderbal district of Kashmir valley on Thursday night, a police spokesman said here.

Srinagar: A policeman was injured in an
encounter between security forces and militants in Kangan area
of Ganderbal district of Kashmir valley on Thursday night, a police
spokesman said here.

The spokesman said "police and army troops engaged the
militants in an encounter this evening at Chak-Akha in Kangan,
45 kms from here".
He said a joint operation was launched by the security
forces following specific information about the presence of
the militants in the area.

"One constable of police suffered injuries in the
operation", he added.
Yesterday, a Pakistani militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba was
killed in another gun battle in Kangan area. He was identified
as Aijaz Ahmad alias Amir, a resident of Lahore city.
