NC MLA weeps inside J&K Assembly

A ruling National Conference MLA cried bitterly in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday alleging that his demands regarding his constituency were treated with indifference by the authorities.

Jammu: A ruling National Conference MLA
cried bitterly in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday
alleging that his demands regarding his constituency were
treated with indifference by the authorities and admitted
failure in getting justice for the people he represents.

Nazir Gurezi, who represents mountain-locked Gurez
Assembly seat in the state Assembly, broke down while speaking
about the hardships faced by the people of his constituency in
the absence of road connectivity and other facilities.

"Gurez does not have any road links. People there are
living an isolated life from the rest of J&K," the NC
legislator said while speaking on the grants of the PWD and
Housing and Urban Development Department in the state
Assembly.

"I had raised demands for the roads, submitted road
projects and demanded grants of just Rs 20 lakh but
unfortunately they were turned down by the officers of PWD. I
pleaded with the minister and officer but nothing was given to
me," he said.

"We (people of Gurez) work shoulder to shoulder with the
Army in defence of country`s borders. Our people are targets
of Pak shells and also government apathy. Why the government
is forcing people to take to guns", he asked.

If an MLA has to be dictated by officers and can do
nothing to ameliorate the conditions of people he represents,
he has no business to be in the Assembly, he said and wept on
the floor of the House uttering, "I have failed".

Later, the minister concerned assured the MLA that the
demands of his constituency would be addressed at the
earliest.
