Omar asks Pak to take steps to stop infiltration

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today asked Islamabad to to take steps to stop infiltration from across the border.

Jammu: Noting that better Indo-Pak ties are
necessary in the larger interest of people in Jammu and
Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today asked Islamabad to
to take steps to stop infiltration from across the border.

Omar said his government will continue to work to improve
relations between the two neighbours.

"Conflicts never yield positive results but only add to
human miseries and make the situation complex. The people in
general and those living on borders have to bear the brunt of
the conflicts," he told a gathering at the border village of
Marh, about 30 kms from here.

The chief minister asked Pakistan to take measures to
"stop infiltration from across the border and help in
improvement of ties".

On the demand for reservation of 33 per cent seats for
women in ensuing polls for local bodies and Panchayats, he
said the government wanted a consensus on the issue. "We want
to encourage women to participate in polls and contribute in a
much bigger way," he said.

On inter-district job bill, Omar claimed certain people
are bent upon creating confusion among the people and assured
his government will not mar the interest of any section.

"We do not believe in conferring any benefit to any
section at the cost of other but our objective and endeavour
is to protect the rights of all," he said.
