Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has set up a high-level committee to study a proposal for the digitisation of Permanent Resident Certificates (PRC) in the state.
Replying to a supplementary in the Legislative Council here, Minister of State for Revenue, Aijaz Ahmed Khan said that a panel had been constituted under the Financial Commissioner of Revenue to see how the PRCs may be digitised to eliminate faking and enable better storage of records.
On the issue of fake state subjects being issued to some persons, Khan said the government was serious about tackling the problem and added that there was a State Subject Commission in place to check the authenticity of documents.
Earlier, while replying to a question from National Conference MLC Javed Ahmad Rana, Khan said that since the existing laws clearly set restrictions on the acquisition of immovable property in J-K by non-state subjects, there was no need to enact a separate legislation in that regard.
The minister further said that no outsider would be allowed to permanently settle down in the state and pointed out that some refugees from Pakistan were temporarily residing in various parts of the state.
