Jammu: Opposition Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday staged a walkout in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, after a verbal duel between party chief Mehbooba Mufti and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar over the killing of an infant by unidentified people in Baramulla.

During a debate, Mufti charged the government of failing to tackle law and order situation in the state.

"Kashmir is on boil for last one month and government and its law and order machinery are in a state of slumber state," she alleged.

She said there is an urgent need to restore peace and end an era of "oppression" and "suppression" that government is resorting to by booking teenagers under Public Safety Act and section 121 of Ranbir Penal Code which are harsh.

"Government should address teenagers at the ground level and end alienation among the people which will automatically restore peace and normalcy," she said.

While rebutting the allegations levelled by Mufti that government has created a counter insurgency stone pelting force, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister said "I challenge the opposition leader to prove the allegation or resign."

After the verbal duel between the two, PDP staged a walkout from the house.

However, after a two-day of disruption of the House by the opposition over price rise and law and order situation, the question hour of the Assembly passed off smoothly.
