Physical standards relaxed for J&K youths to get into forces

To attract more youths from Jammu and Kashmir, Government has decided to extend the relaxation in physical eligibility conditions for recruitment in central police forces like CRPF and BSF to the Jammu region.

New Delhi: To attract more youths from Jammu
and Kashmir, Government has decided to extend the relaxation
in physical eligibility conditions for recruitment in central
police forces like CRPF and BSF to the Jammu region.
The relaxation in height and chest parameters was till
now only available to the residents of Kashmir, Leh and Ladakh
but with the inclusion of the Jammu region, the entire state
has been brought under one umbrella.

"The step has been taken so that the Jammu region does
not feel alienated from other parts of the state," a senior
Home Ministry official said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, which is the administrative
authority of the central police forces, has also decided to
"step up" the recruitment in the ranks of constables from the
state.

"Government desires to recruit more persons to the
central police forces from Jammu and Kashmir. Hence, there is
a case for relaxing the eligibility conditions for all
sections of people in the state including the Jammu region.
Henceforth, the said relaxation will be available to all the
permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir," a recent press note
of the Home Ministry said.
Accordingly, it is proposed to amend the extant orders
and extend the benefit of relaxed eligibility conditions to
all candidates from Jammu and Kashmir. As a result of the
proposed amendment all sections of the people in the entire
state of Jammu and Kashmir will be benefited.

Jammu and Kashmir will be on par with states like Assam,
Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya,
Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura so far as relaxed
eligibility conditions are concerned, the note said.

"This proposal is also being communicated to the
government of Jammu and Kashmir and after obtaining the views
of the state government final orders will be issued shortly,"
it said.

Government hopes that the relaxation of eligibility
conditions for all candidates from the state will be welcomed
by all sections there, a new press note said.

The government has recruited 1,109 constables from Jammu
and Kashmir in 2009 while in 2010, 2309 constables were
recruited.

The recruitment drive is going to be "stepped up" for the
state, the note added.

With this new arrangement of relaxed norms, the new
minimum height of candidates will be 165 centimetres for males
and 155 centimetres for females from Jammu region (on par with
Kashmir and Leh and Ladakh).

The minimum chest criteria for male candidates will be 78
centimetres (minimum 5 cms expansion) in the same category.
